After making the decision to move away from Glasgow in 2009 to try and further his career and cut back on the traveling, its fair to say that the season did not pan out as Robert had hoped. He moved to a Midlands base and joined Birmingham at the start of the season but struggled to find form. Mid season he moved to Stoke and although things picked up he still struggled to find his 2008 season form.
As a result, his lower average made him an obvious target for the Tigers and they moved quickly to offer him a team spot for 2010, feeling that particularly at Ashfield Robert has the potential to exceed his average. Robert was equally quick to accept and return to the Stripes.
Going further back, Robert originally came to the UK and joined Edinburgh but after an horrific injury in 2005 he was left out of the Monarchs side for 2006 and Glasgow took the chance to step in and bring him to Ashfield, buying his contract one season later. Over the next three years, Robert steadily improved his average at Glasgow, benefiting in the early days from riding at reserve and also from being under the watchful eye of mentor Shane Parker. His gating can be excellent and its understood he has invested in new equipment for 2010 which will hopefully give him the power he needs to stay out in front.
He gained some experience at Elite League level in 2008 after being named as Belle Vue's number 8 and surprised a few people at that level doing a number of meetings at reserve due to Belle Vue's injury crises.
As a youngster Robert was originally a talented BMX rider, only taking up speedway at 13. Since then he has progressed steadily and last year competed in the World Junior Solo Championships semi final in Croatia and additionally represented Australia in the U21 team World Cup in Denmark where they finished 4th.
