Nick wont be 16 until well into the 2010 season but he will be coming across in March and has secured a National League berth with Buxton.
Tigers fans got a brief chance to see Nick in action last season when he was over in the UK for a month riding as many tracks as possible. Although his public outings at Glasgow were both marred by falls, his private practices and outings elsewhere were more than enough to impress the Glasgow promotion - as well as a number of other promotions. It was Glasgow however who were able to secure his signature and he is definitely an exciting prospect.
He has been riding since he was 10 years old and took to speedway like a duck to water winning his first race in only his second ever outing. The only negative comment from his early days were that he perhaps showed a little too much aggression in his riding! At 13 he won the Ultimate Coaching Experience and spent 2 hours on a one to one basis with Jason Crump getting the benefit of his experience and useful advise and pointers.
There are a few tie ins with Glasgow - he lives not far from Mick Powell, who has also helped him in the pits, and has had advice from Merve Janke and Mitch Shirra, riding on Mitch's own track a few times. He is good friends with Mitchell and Josh and until quite recently his bikes were previously owned by one or other of the Townsville Terrors.
One other connection that has also played a big part in Nick's development is that of main sponsor Ivor Harm, of Brisbane Roof Tiling Supplies who has done a lot to help junior speedway in Queensland. Ivor sponsors two other youngsters - Josh Grajczonek and Darcy Ward.
Obviously Nick is still very young and will be on a steep learning curve when he returns to the UK this year but it is a major coup for the Tigers that they have secured his signature despite the attentions of several other UK promoters.
Nick has dual nationality through his father and as such when he is ready to start racing at PL level it will be on a 3 point average.
Although many fans seem to expect Nick to step up soon after his 16th birthday, it seems more likely that he will be given the 2010 season to develop at National League level with hopefully the odd foray into PL speedway as an NL guest
