Its hard to know where to start for Joe Screen, you could go on for quite some time. Definitely one of the characters and a true stalwart in British Speedway, he seemed to get a bit of a rough deal from the authorities over the last season and a half. However he was finally able to join Tigers half way through the 2010 season and quickly made an impact.
Glasgow bought his contract making him a Tigers asset and he will hopefully be the lynch pin of the Tigers side for a few years yet.
Joe started out on grass track at 5 years old, one of many motor cycle disciplines he still excels at. He made his debut in British speedway in 1989 with Belle Vue and a year later was crowned GB U21 Champion. A World U21 Championship title followed in 1993 and amongst other major titles he has won in his career are a couple of British Championships.
Not surprisingly for a rider of his calibre, Joe did at one time hold the record for the British Record fee paid by a club for a rider when Bradford bought him for a significant 5 figure sum thought it be in excess of £30 000 from Belle Vue in 1994.
Although his 2010 was brought to an abrupt halt after he suffered a nasty head injury in the home meeting with Newcastle at the end of August, Joe is now back fighting fit and raring to go and has been quoted on a few occasions as saying how much he is looking forward to trying out the new look Glasgow track.
Whilst he is nearer the end of his career than the beginning, Joe has indicated he will carry on riding as long as he enjoys it and hopefully that will be for some time yet and at Glasgow. He had a testimonial, The Screen Show, in 2004
