Jamie first rode speedway at the age of 8 at the much missed Linlithgow track and had a background in rugby when younger, playing for Berwick at 14. He spent quite a bit of time at Ashfield with his Uncle Sean in the early days of Tigers tenancy and obviously the Courtney ties with the Glasgow Tigers are strong as in addition to Uncle Sean, his dad Mark and elder brother Scott have also graced the stripes.
Now 21 years old, Jamie signed for Isle of Wight on his 16th birthday and his only official Premier League outing at Ashfield was with them back in 2004. He followed this up with spells at Workington and Rye House although he never really got the break through that most expected in the early years and was hampered by a couple of serious injuries which saw him spend long spells on the sidelines.
However, Jamie spent last year quietly plying his trade at NL level. He stepped in as a late replacement in the World U21 Qualifier at Rye House early last season and just failed to qualify but rode well. He again caught the eye in Sheffield's Top Gun tournament at the end of last season, finishing 4th after engine troubles caused him to pull up in the final.
Older and wiser with less pressure on him than he had to cope with in his early days, Glasgow could well have made a very shrewd move in signing Jamie.
