On returning 'home' to Glasgow in 2009, James Grieves indicated that one of his ambitions was to finish in the top ten of the Premier League averages and despite Tigers having a poor season, one of the highlights was James achieving the form that saw him attain that target, finishing 6th highest. For a large part of the season he was in the top four and was very unlucky to loose out on a spot in the PLRC.
At most clubs in the PL, James would be the no 1 and, especially at Ashfield, he is a trump card for the Tigers. He did state at one time that he would expect to see his career out at Glasgow but the way he rode last season that day must surely still be a number of years away.
He spent his early years at Glasgow before taking the step up to the top league with Wolverhampton in 1996, a place he is still held in high regard by the fans. However half way through the 98 season, team changes saw James dropped and he went to Berwick on loan. Edinburgh secured his services on loan in 1999 before James took the decision that riled many of our rivals fans and to an extent their promotion and returned to Glasgow in 2000, staying until the end of the 2004 season
After leaving Glasgow at the end of 2004, James spent a couple of seasons at Newcastle and a couple of seasons at Redcar and matured into one of the top riders in the Premier League.
James will be celebrating 20 years in the sport this season and has been granted a thoroughly deserved 20 year meeting this season, expected to be held towards the end of the season.
