2011 Glasgow Scoring Record
Christian was another surprise signing for the Tigers in 2011 and a rider that a few clubs would probably have been looking at.
After an excellent start to the 2009 season, Christian missed a season and a half after receiving serious arm injuries in an innocent looking fall at Perry Barr and with being out for over a season injured his average was re-assessed making him a very attractive prospect.
As far as speedway is concerned, Christian was actually a late starter in the sport, taking to it at 16 although he had been riding grass track since he was 10 years old. Sport was obviously important to him as he was growing up as he also competed quite successfully in Little Athletics for most of his formative years.
His first competitive ride in the Uk was actually for Ashfield at Sheffield in 2000 but it was Edinburgh he joined when he came over to the UK to start PL racing. After 3 years with Edinburgh, he made the short trip across the M8 to ride for Glasgow in 2003, putting almost half a point on his average.
Despite rumours of a potential move to Belle Vue in 2004, Christian chose to sit the season out and went back home to prepare financially and physically for a return in 2005. The year out certainly had a positive affect and it was Newcastle who were to benefit as he joined them in 2005 for the first of four successful seasons there, picking up a couple of Rider of the Year awards at the time
It’s fair to say it was a surprise when, for 2009, he was snapped up by King’s Lynn on a full transfer as the Norfolk Arena was not one of his favourite circuits but he quickly dispelled any worries the Stars fans may have had with an average of 8.00 for his home meetings prior to injury.
Now back fully fit after a couple of operations, Christian is a rider many Premier League fans see as a bargain on his reduced average
