Cruelly it was riding against the club he started his UK Speedway career with that Jason picked up the injury which has ultimately forced him to call it a day perhaps a season or two earlier than he wanted to.
Jason picked up his injury on 4th September riding in heat 5 of the Premier League clash between Glasgow and Redcar. The Tigers were already well ahead and Redcar had put Jason out as a TR to try and come back into the race. Jason was out gated by Nick Morris but in typical Lyons style gave hard chase. Entering lap 2 bend 1, Jason appeared to hit a rut and it propelled him at speed into the first bend fence in a horrible looking crash which resulted in a triple leg break.
Unfortunately the news is that the leg is not healing as expected and there is no doubt that his tenacious style on track and gregarious nature off it will be missed at tracks up and down the country.
A farewell meeting is planned for later in the season and it is almost certain it will be on 23rd August at Perry Barr Stadium
