In what was an entertaining meeting, Mason's night didn't get off to the best of starts when he fell on the final bend of his opening race whilst in third place. He had been chasing Todd Kurtz and Jake Anderson at the time.
Heat 8 saw his second outing and Mason claimed a second spot in a re run heat after Brenton Barnfield had caused the first running to be stopped after hitting the fence. At this stage, it looked from the spectator side of the fence as if Mason was perhaps suffering with engine problems although that was never confirmed.
Mason was out again in heat 9 in a very tough heat against the three riders who were, at that time, top of the scoring for the evening. Masters and Tungate were involved in an epic battle out front with Mason comfortably in third spot, well ahead of the previously unbeaten James Holder.
In his next outing in heat 15, Mason put himself right back in contention with a classy and comfortable win from the tapes, leaving him only requiring to finish in the top two in his final heat to qualify.
His final race was heat 18 and was billed as the race of the night by those there. Mason rode a very determined race under pressure and just when he looked a dead cert for the heat win his primary chain went coming off the final bend of the race. Unfortunately although his momentum was able to carry him over the line, Horwood and Ringwood were able to squeeze past leaving Mason in third place and just failing to qualify.
