There were no signs of nerves as all seven riders weighed in with big points totals in a meeting that was run in lightening quick time.
Michal Rajkowski made a superb gate in the opening heat with Joe Screen sweeping round the outside to take over the lead out of bend 2. Although Joe was quickly clear, Michal was pressed hard by David Howe who never gave up but Michal rode well to combat him and even a last bend cut back from outside to inside by Howe was comfortably dealt with by Michal.
Both Glasgow reserves gated well in heat 2 and although David had a bit of a wobble on the second bend he recovered well. Michal Palm Toft appeared to clip the inside kerb as he tried a tight line out of bend 2 and was forced to retire with his chain left lying on the track. The heat was finished as a contest already with the Tigers pairing well clear and David even able to try a very wide line on the pits bend of lap 3 which lost him a fair bit of ground without any worry of losing second place. the remaining Scorpion Steve Worrall slid off on his own at the rear lap 4 bend 1 but remounted to finish and claim the point.
Nick Morris was quick out of the gate in heat 3 but Richard Sweetman was at the rear. Coming out of bend 2, Scunthorpe's Thomas Jorgensen seemed to lose power and Richard clattered into him. Both riders managed to stay on their bikes although Jorgensen was to retire from the heat. With Richard Hall comfortably in second spot, Tigers had to be content with a heat advantage but it was to be the last the fans were to see of Hall for the afternoon as he withdrew from the meeting with a recurrence of a shoulder injury.
After a level gate, the Glasgow pairing came out of the opening bends ahead in heat 4, James on the outside line ahead of Theo. By the end of the opening lap Worrall was already dropping back and although Wilkinson tried to get back into the mix in the early stages, the Glasgow pair were well clear and recorded a very easy 5-1.
Not surprisingly, Scunthorpe tried to halt the rot by bringing David Howe out on a tactical ride in heat 5 and Howe duly obliged by winning the heat easily from the gate. Nick Morris had tried hard to muscle him out on the opening bends but Howe was more than equal to the challenge and Nick ended up locking slightly allowing Wilson through. briefly before regaining second spot on the back straight. Lap 2 bend 4 saw Richard Sweetman make his trademark outside drive to easily pass Wilson who was to give up shortly afterwards and the heat was shared.
Joe Screen quickly pulled clear after a good gate in heat 6 with Michal slotting into second spot. Scunthorpe's Palm Toft was however buzzing all over the back of Michal in a determined fashion for all four laps. Michal had to be sharp, particularly to block a move down the backstraight of lap 2 with Toft looking slightly quicker and he rode a very good line on the final lap to hold Toft off and ensure that the Tigers had another heat maximum.
With Hall out, Steve Worrall came in to replace him in heat7. A good drive from James Grieves into the opening bends was enough to set him apart from the rest of the field as he went on to win the heat easily. David had been at the back out of the gate but cut inside Steve Worrall lap 1 bend 3 into third. The action was then between David and second place Thomas Jorgensen with David pushing hard, almost getting inside him lap 3 bend 3 and then making a very determined effort on the outside out of the final bend but Jorgensen held by half a wheel.
It looked as if Michal might have got a flier in heat 8 but it was allowed to go and Michal and Theo came out of bend 2 on a 5-1. The Glasgow pair were quickly well clear with the only real action being rather bizarrely Ben Wilson preventing team mate Michal Palm Toft from getting through into third despite Toft looking quicker. Toft eventually went round the outside of his team mate at the end of lap 3 but it was far too late for him to have any chance of closing the gap on the Tigers pair.
After a level gate, Nick Morris came out of bend 2 in the lead with Richard Sweetman on the inside line slotting into second. Carl Wilkinson gave up at the back on the third bend leaving Steve Worrall to do battle on his own and the youngster never gave up trying but was unable to get anywhere near the Tigers as they recorded another 5-1.
Again there appeared to be movement at the tapes which the referee let go in heat 10 and it was Jorgensen who led as they entered the back straight. The heat quickly developed into two races in one with Joe trying hard to press Jorgensen, coming very close to passing outside him lap 3 bend 2, dropping back slightly after that however. Meanwhile, the Raj and Toft were involved in an excellent battle for third spot. Although there was no passing, there was plenty of action from the two as Raj had to be very aware to block Toft's attempts to get by.
David Bellego was the rider who came out of bend 2 ahead in heat 11, David Howe in second spot looking slightly and accidentally impeding James Grieves, sending him to the back. David Bellego had a major wobble lap2 bend 2 but recovered quickly and was never troubled as he rode home for a comfortable heat win. Lap 2 bend 3 saw James Grieves pass inside Worrall for third place and the heat quickly became spread.
Nick Theo and Thomas Jorgensen gated together in heat 12 but the glasgow Pairing edged Jorgensen out on the opening bends and that was basically that for the heat as it became quickly well spread, Nick winning with Theo in second.
Rather strangely, Scunthorpe put the ineffective Carl Wilkinson out in black and white against James and Joe in heat 13 and as Tigers fans predicted the move was to fail. Scorpions captain David Howe was quickest out of the gate but was to fall victim to a pincer movement from Joe on the outside and James on the inside of bend 2. Howe briefly appeared to get back past Joe on lap 1 bend 3 but Joe hit right back. Although there was no passing it was a decent race with credit going to David Howe for continuing to press the Tigers duo for all four laps.
The pincer move seemed to be in vogue for Tigers riders, Richard Sweetman going outside the quick gating Steve worrall in heat 14 whilst David Bellego nipped up the inside and the Glasgow duo were quickly clear for yet another easy 5-1.
Glasgow elected to put Theo Pijper and Richard Sweetman out in heat 15 but it was Scunthorpe's top man David Howe who led out of the opening bends and went on to win a rather mundane shared heat.
Overall it was a bit of a demolition job. Glasgow showed no mercy and with Scunthorpe having two riders who appeared uninterested and a third who was forced to withdraw through injury they were never going to be able to match a determined Tigers side. David Howe and Thomas Jorgensen worked hard and although they may not have got many points the visitors reserves also had a never give up attitude.
On the day however it is unlikely any team could have lived with Glasgow. Every Tiger had at least two wins/paid wins and all scored well above their official averages. The first stage of Glasgow's big day was complete and the way the team were riding things were already looking very good
