Shane Scores 10 at Armadale
(Posted 02/05/08)
After a slow start, Shane Parker finished strongly for King's Lynn at Armadale in his guest appearance for Kevin Doolan.
It didn't start too well, Shane looking very sluggish out of the gate in the opening heat with Lawson comfortably in front and then being passed by Andrew Tully on the start of lap 3 to end up on the wrong end of a 5-1.
Heat 5 didn't go much better for Shane although this time that was down in part to his temporary team mate. Sneddon gated but Shane was right on his tail coming out of the second bend. King's Lynn's Tacey was at the back but in a move that was a tad reckless he came very hard under Ryan Fisher, forcing him across towards Parker and the fence. Shane had no option but to shut off and did well to avoid a collision. It did however leave him rooted well at the rear and although he was able to catch and pass Tacey he had no chance of making any impression on the Monarchs pairing.
Shane then had the difficult task of coming in as a tactical substitute in heat 8 but once again was to get no help from his partner Tacey. Tacey made the gate but instead of trying to slow the race down he shot to the front and opened up a small gap, giving Parker no assistance whatsoever. Shane did manage to challenge Aaron Summers on the final lap, he may momentarily also have passed him, but Summers fought back hard and held on to secure 3rd place on the line.
Heat 11 saw Parker out on what looked like a 2nd bike and the contrast from earlier races was marked. He shot from the gate and quickly opened up a comfortable lead, winning the heat easily.
In heat 13 Lawson and Parker were up against each other again and produced another entertaining race, it was neck and neck for all four laps. It looked as if Parker had done just enough to claim the win on the line but the referee surprisingly called it Lawson's way.
Revenge came in heat 15 for Shane however when he blasted from the gate and beat the rest of the field comfortably, thus denying Lawson a maximum in heat 15, just as Lawson did to him a few weeks back.
The latter stages of the meeting saw Shane back to his best and once again his tussles with Lawson were a joy to watch.
Shane will now head off to Berwick to guest for King's Lynn against the Bandits before heading back to Ashfield for Glasgow's meeting against Newcastle on Sunday .
