Meet the Riders Night - Trent Leverington
(Posted 06/03/08)
Its great to have Buildbase on board as Tigers sponsors this year as the team outfits as well as being smart helps them to act like a team. Trent has been involved with Buildbase for 4 years now and knows how good they are as sponsors.
Its good to have as many Australians in the side as they Australians bring good team spirit.
Last year was a really good year for him and he progressed probably better than most expected but this year he has to aim to score better away from home, especially at Edinburgh, as he must provide back up for Shane. it is a big step for him to improve his average this year, he needs to rack up some double figure scores and feels he is capable of doing that.
He is really confident that they can surprise a few of those who have already written them off in the Speedway Star.
He had a relatively quiet time over the winter in Australia but kept fit. He had always in tended to ride in the Queensland Title and was leading at one point before 'stuffing up' one corner.
Trent is hoping to get a go on the track before the first meeting. The deal to ride for Glasgow in 2008 was concluded very quickly and he was surprised that it was also done nice and early. It is difficult for them having to wait until after the BSPA conference before clubs can start forming their sides and he feels there is an argument for it to be held earlier in the year, perhaps right at the end of the season.
Second heat leader is a big step up and he is also taking over Shane's jacket from last year so has big shoes to fill. He knows that he needs to step up but a lot of being a heat leader is in the mind. Last years PLRC showed him exactly where he has to be to compete as a heat leader - he was not far off the pace at Swindon.
Last year also showed that he is capable of beating anyone round Ashfield and he needs to work on being able to do that on the away tracks too. He feels he is 'nearly' one of the big guys and aims to be one of them this year although he feels that if Robert can stay away from injury he is capable of pushing for the heat leader slot as could Ross.
