Meet the Riders Night - Mitchell Davey
(Posted 06/03/08)
Mitchell was over for a spell last season with his family riding second halves to try and win a contract in the UK after having been in good form in Australia.
Glasgow were not the only club to speak with him in the close season but he had no hesitation in dealing with the Tigers after the dealings they had with the promotion when they were over.
He didn’t do as much riding in the winter as had been expected after his dad took ill with appendicitis, meaning he had to pull out of his reserve slot in the Australian Championships.
It does help that there are a number of other Australians at the club but he would probably have chosen Glasgow anyway even had that not been the case because of the way the club looks after you and the hospitality and having a good rapport when they met up with the Glasgow promotion last year.
Having a 2 year deal also helps as it takes a certain amount of pressure off him and Josh although they are still very keen to do well.
His dad is over with them to keep them in check – and to do the housework!
Mitchell has ridden a few tracks over here when he visited last year, he enjoyed Mildenhall and King’s Lynn whilst declaring Armadale ‘a challenge’!
The length of time waiting for visa’s was a bind although he joked he and Josh must have chatted up the right people over there as some Australians are still awaiting their Visa’s.
People seem to have written Glasgow off before the season starts but Mitchell believes they are under estimating them.
When asked if he was a gater, Mitchell said he had been working on his gating and seemed to gate quicker when it was cold as he didn’t like sitting around!
