Team Doubts for the Weekend
(Posted 07/06/08)
Glasgow have secured four different guests for this weekends meetings against Berwick (away) and Workington (home) although they could have to draft in others if a last minute complaint by Berwick is upheld.
There have been discussions all through the week on various speedway forums as to the legality of using rider replacement for Anders after last weekends meeting against Sheffield was abandoned as he lined up at the tapes for his first official ride for the Tigers.
Whilst some sources have suggested that the facility will be allowed as the meeting itself had got underway, Berwick are this morning appealing this insisting that Glasgow should have to use a Conference League guest in his absence.
The lateness of the appeal leaves Glasgow little time to find anyone if it is upheld although that should not come as a surprise. In 2005 Berwick made a complaint against Trent Leverington riding less than two hours prior to tapes up which left the Tigers with one rider only in three heats whilst Trent had to watch from the sidelines.
For this evening at Berwick, the guests named by the Tigers are Tomas Topinka and Sam Martin. Topinka has ridden twice at Shielfield this season so far and has a massive 11.20 average round the track from those two meetings. Sam is a previous Berwick rider, spending the second half of last season riding at reserve for the Bandits and making himself popular with his attitude. He is however just returning from injury which was why he was not at Ashfield with Sheffield last Sunday.
Against Workington, guests were probably a little harder to come by and the promotion have managed to secure the services of Adrian Rymel to replace Shane. Adrian has been in good form this season and upped his average although for some reason this seems to have been overlooked amongst Berwick's regular team changes. At reserve, Adam McKinna will once again get the opportunity to show what he is capable of round Ashfield after last weeks rain off.
