Robert Misses Out
(Posted 19/07/08)
Robert Ksiezak failed to qualify through to the final of the World U-21 Championship in tonight's semi final at Gorican in Croatia.
On a track that apparently resembled a ploughed field, Robert started very well winning his opening ride from the gate and he certainly looked to be coping with the conditions a lot better than most in his opening race.
However, things went downhill for him from there on in.
His second ride saw the conditions get the better of him and cause him to slide off although he was in third at the time. He remounted and finished the race. He was out again in the very next heat but did not make a particularly good gate. Any chance he had of catching Pavlic and Kus, who had both outgated him, were destroyed however when his bike gave up the ghost and he was forced to retire.
After 3 rides, the odds were now stacked against Robert getting through and he went into his fourth ride probably realising that he needed a win to keep his hopes alive. However he was up against the impressive looking Adrian Gomólski who outgated him and with Vaculik also getting the better of him on the opening bends it left Robert in third with any hopes of qualifying realistically gone.
His final ride in heat 18 was uneventful but saw him finish at the back to complete the evening on 4 points. A copy of the scorecard, courtesy of www.sportowefakty.pl and a list of the qualifiers can be found here.
Robert now faces a long tiring trip home ahead of tomorrows meeting against Mildenhall at Ashfield where the track should certainly be in far better condition for racing!
