Juul Claims 4th Spot at Belle Vue
(Posted 13/07/08)

Peter Juul had his first competitive UK outing since signing as a Tiger when he took part in the Belle Vue Junior Championship at Kirkmanshulme Lane.

Right from the start Peter showed that he was going to be in with a shout, coming out in his opening race in heat 3 and winning in style in what was the fastest time of the evening.

His second outing unfortunately saw him off gate 4 which was proving tricky and to make things worse he was up against pre meeting favourite Aaron Summers, who was off the favoured inside gate. Summers gated ahead of Peter and despite Peter trying many various lines he was unable to find a way through and had to settle for second place.

Out again in heat 10, Peter recorded another very easy win from the gate.

In his penultimate ride in heat 13, straight after the interval, Rye House's Daniel Halsey put him under pressure in the early stages but Peter held him at bay and in the end once again recorded a comfortable win.

Heat 19 was always going to be a cracker with Juul up against two of the riders expected to do well in the meeting. Once again the race was decided from the gate but unfortunately Peter made his poorest gate of the evening and found himself in third place. He had a good battle with Adam McKinna for second place but just could not find a way through.

Rather than a semi final and final, the meeting was decided on scores from heats alone which left Peter tying for third spot alongside Daniel Halsey and Adam McKinna. There was then a third place run off.

Unfortunately for Peter, he landed the poorest gate again and was outgated by Halsey and McKinna.. The race came to a premature end when McKinna impeded Halsey, bringing him down and was excluded. Despite it looking as if Peter had actually taken the lead, the referee bizarrely awarded Halsey the win and third place overall, leaving Peter in 4th.

Our spy at Belle Vue was quite impressed with the way Peter rode for his age and first visit to the track and felt he was a shade unlucky on the night with gate positions. A copy of the scorecard can be seen here.

Well done to Peter on a good performance
