Ashfield Housing Planning Refused
(Posted 15/01/08)
Glasgow Tigers were given a nice boost from the local planning committee earlier today when it was announced that plans to build offices and flats on the site of the Ashfield pub and the ground currently used as season ticket holders car parking have been rejected.
The plans only became public knowledge last October and Tigers fans were amongst many who took the time out to express their objections to the plans. It is understood that the representations made by speedway fans had a significant bearing on the refusal of the application.
In addition the Committee took into account when making their decision that when the Glasgow City Plan was reviewed in early 2007, the Plan allocated Ashfield Stadium as a designated "Greenspace" - as such policies would make it difficult for planning permission to be granted for housing without a replacement "Greenspace" facility being provided.
It had been rumoured a couple of weeks ago that the application was expected to be refused but nothing was certain until today's very welcome announcement that planning had definitely been refused.
