Rider Messages
(Posted 03/02/08)
Messages from the 2008 team were read out at the STARs event on Friday night with all enthusiastically looking forward to the new season.
First up was a message from Shane, peppered as usual with some humour. Despite the pneumonia, which is still having an effect on him, Shane is making the most of the hot weather. He is delighted to be back at Glasgow and took the opportunity to point out that despite rumours to the contrary he spoke to no other club. Shane's knee and wrist injuries from the end of last season are healing well. He's been for a bar-b-que and fishing with Robert, met up with Trent on holiday and is looking forward to the new season. He feels both new young riders show a lot of potential and they are very enthusiastic. Extra thermals are on order for the earlier start to the season!
Up next was a message from Mitchell Davey which was full of enthusiasm and determination. Mitchell said he was really looking forward to coming over and he would be giving it maximum effort. He is sure that they can prove the doubters wrong and said the more people write Glasgow off the more determined he is that they are all going to prove the doubters wrong. He also passed on thanks to those he has already spoken to and was looking forward to meeting everyone in March.
Josh was also enthusiastic, stating he was happy to sign and can't wait to come over to Glasgow. He has spoken to people in Australia and all the feedback he has had on the Tigers and their fans has been positive. He acknowledged it will be tough for him to start with until he gets dialled in. Riding in the Australian Titles was a great learning experience and it also gave him a chance to meet Shane at a couple of the rounds and he helped him out a bit as well. Shane also told him how good the Tigers support was and how good the club has been to him over the years. With Robert being in the series as well he has spoken with him a fair bit and Robert has been filling him in on what to expect.
Trent has been busy, working during the week and racing at the weekends, doing long track as well as speedway. He was happy with his second place in the Queensland Championship and has been working hard on his bikes and engines as he really wants to do justice to his 2nd heat leader status.
When he first went back to Australia Robert had 3 weeks off but has been busy ever since and is training hard. he's been happy with his form and had a few good results. He is keen to up his average and challenge hard for the second heat leader spot and is also hoping to avoid injuries. they affected him quite a bit last season especially as he had concussion 3 times.
The thing that was clear in the message from Ross was how much he is looking forward to the season ahead. he can't wait for the season to begin and knows he is capable of scoring home and away. he just wants to forget the past and move on and can't wait to start the season.
Finally the message from Lee was that he is delighted to be back and is very happy at Glasgow, so much so that as has already been reported in the press he would love to become a Glasgow asset. Lee also mentioned his appreciation of the fans, he feels the Glasgow fans are probably the best 'especially those crazy women'! He also gave a big thanks to his sponsors from last season and hopes he can get them on board again this year.
