Josh Crashes Out at Scunthorpe
(Posted 16/08/08)
Tigers fans were left worrying about a case of deja vu after reports filtered through that Josh Grajczonek was involved in an horrifying looking accident at Scunthorpe last night whilst guesting for Sheffield.
The youngster came to grief in heat 8. After making the gate, Viktor Bergstrom passed outside him on the backstraight. Josh immediately tried to pass back on the third bend, misjudged his move and both riders careered through the safety fence at high speed. Both were taken to hospital but thankfully serious injury was avoided.
Josh had been unconscious on the track but was deemed to have recovered sufficiently to enable him to travel home late last night whilst Bergstrom suffered heavy bruising.
Until the accident, Josh had looked almost untouchable in his opening two races. In spite of a sluggish gate, Josh came from the back in heat 2 to lead by the second lap and went on to win by a considerable distance. His other outing, in heat 4, may have qualified for one of Sky's 'ding-dong' battles with Josh swapping positions a few times with Ben Powell before getting the better of him at the start of the final lap and going on to claim his second victory of the evening.
Glasgow will now be left sweating on Josh's availability for tomorrows derby clash with Edinburgh but also breathing a sigh of relief that things were not as bad as first feared.
