Trent Plays It Safe at Berwick
(Posted 05/04/08)
Trent rode sensibly in bad weather this evening in the Karl Friar Memorial Trophy at Berwick to finish in the middle of the field.
Snow just before the start and wintry conditions throughout made things difficult for the riders and probably affected how the majority rode.
Out in heat 2 only shortly after the initial wintry showers stopped, Trent was understandably tentative and finished at the back behind the home teams Tero Aarnio and Newcastle pair of Franc and Powell.
Three heats later Trent was out again and finished third in a well spread out heat from the gate.
Trent got his revenge on Powell in heat 7 when, after a very good gate, he won by a country mile from Powell, Auty and Sike just as the snow started to fall again.
His final outing was in heat 11 when, with a light covering of snow around, he again made a good start. However when Karlsson and Wilkinson challenged on laps 2 and 3 respectively of the opening lap, Trent succumbed rather than take risks.
He finished with a points tally of 5 points, roughly in the middle of the pack. Franc had been unbeaten throughout the heats but was beaten in the final by Michal Makovsky, who had only previously dropped a point to Franc.
